Robust Super-Resolution by Minimizing a Gaussian-weighted L2 Error Norm

چکیده
Super-resolution restoration is the problem of restoring a high-resolution scene from multiple degraded low-resolution images under motion. Due to imaging blur and noise, this problem is ill-posed. Additional constraints such as smoothness of the solution via regularization is often required to obtain a stable solution. While adding a regularization term to the cost function is a standard practice in image restoration, we propose a restoration algorithm that does not require this extra regularization term. The robustness of the algorithm is achieved by a Gaussian-weighted L2-norm in the data misfit term that does not response to intensity outliers. With the outliers suppressed, our solution behaves similarly to a maximum-likelihood solution in the presence of Gaussian noise. The effectiveness of our algorithm is demonstrated with super-resolution restoration of real infrared image sequences under severe aliasing and intensity outliers.

Recently, there has been a great deal of work developing super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) algorithms. While many such algorithms have been proposed, the almost SRR estimations are based on L1 or L2 statistical norm estimation, therefore these SRR algorithms are usually very sensitive to their assumed noise model that limits their utility. The real noise models that corrupt the measure sequ...

A hybrid error model with L1 and L2 norm minimization criteria is proposed in this paper for image/video super-resolution. A membership function is defined to adaptively control the tradeoff between the L1 and L2 norm terms. Therefore, the proposed hybrid model can have the advantages of both L1 norm minimization (i.e. edge preservation) and L2 norm minimization (i.e. smoothing noise). In addit...

Super-resolution (SR) aims to overcome the ill-posed conditions of image acquisition. SR facilitates scene recognition from low-resolution image(s). Generally assumes that high and low resolution images share similar intrinsic geometries. Various approaches have tried to aggregate the informative details of multiple low-resolution images into a high-resolution one. In this paper, we present a n...

Nowadays, SRR (super resolution image reconstruction) technology is a very effective method in improving spatial resolution of images and obtaining high-definition images. The SRR approach is an image late processing method that does not require any improvement in the hardware of the imaging system. In the SRR reconstruction model, it is the key point of the research to choose a proper cost fun...
